T is for...

Tomorrow is my birthday. My 30th birthday. T is for thirty.
It would also have been our due date if the May 22nd transfer would have worked.

It might be a little rough. I'm not really looking forward to it. I planned on having a toddler by the time I was thirty. Instead, I'm still waiting. Impatiently waiting...as much as I try...patience is a virtue, and I seem to be running low on that one lately.

We're going out for dinner, with our neighbors. To a fancy restaurant. Where I will eat. And drink. Possibly a lot. I'm pretty sure I'm getting scallops, with risotto. A salty pear martini to start off, and then share a bottle of wine. Followed by their signature dessert, bread pudding. There's no carbs on your birthday, right?

Chad is also throwing me a 30th birthday party at our house...assuming the snow stays away. When the average annual snowfall is 2" and you get more than that overnight, it kind of shuts the city down. Rightly so, these people have ZERO idea how to drive in the snow. Or ice. Chains? Nah, the stores here don't carry enough to outfit the whole town. There's no need.

Anyway, all I know about my party is it's Sunday afternoon. There is cake (banana), alcohol (tons), and snacks (or "snats" as L would say) so it should be fun.

Or, if nothing else, a good distraction from my aging eggs.

S is for...

Yesterday was Mother's Day here in the US.
It was hard. Shitty even. S is for shitty.
You'll get the pun in a few.
Also, this post is not censored for profanity. I let it fly freely.

It started off like any other family gathering day.
Well, after I could rally myself to get out of bed. I'd much prefer to just lay there with Tallie.
Wake up, eat breakfast, down some coffee, start (or finish) whatever dish I was tasked with taking.
This year was dessert - cupcakes for everyone!

...Then I wished a group of fellow IVF'ers (most with newborns or babies on the way) Happy Mother's Day. Of all the people I talked to, these were the people I least expected an insensitive comment from. I thought wrong. Fuck her. I muted the chat.

Chad was off running errands and came home to me in meltdown mode. My instinct was to "frost the fucking cupcakes" and start drinking. At 9am. We didn't have to be anywhere until 2, so I would have been real far gone by that point. Oh…

F is for...

Today I would like to talk to you about the F word. No, not that one.
I'm sure you've heard that one enough for today.

This F word is different. This F word is personal. It's raw. It's real. It's painful. It's not talked about enough. Or, when it is talked about, it's dirty.

No, it's still not *that* F word.
Today I want to talk to you about FERTILITY, or rather about those who struggle with fertility. An even dirtier word. INfertility.

There. I said it. Infertility. "Not getting pregnant despite having carefully timed, unprotected sex for one year." Yep, it happens. It happens a lot. 1 in 8 couples is diagnosed with infertility. Look around. Did you struggle? Did your parents, siblings, friends? No? Congratulations, because you're the lucky ones.
I can tell you first hand, #infertilitysucks

It sucks EVERYTHING. The fun. The happiness. The hope. The future. Everything is sucked into the black hole that is infertility.
Why am I bringing thi…

W is for...

Today I had my first ultrasound in almost a year.
Well, except for the emergency room visit.
W is for Wanda. Everyone's favorite friend.

Dr. B was running a little late. Darn those other women and their eggs. I remember my Nurse Coordinator telling me that ovaries don't know what day it is (about working holidays). Apparently they don't know what time it is either...
So I waited. Half naked. Covered by an over-sized paper napkin. Just me and the ultrasound machine. Wanda. Should I play with her? Roll the giant track ball around a bit?  Would they know? I mean, it's not like they can have cameras in there, right?
I grabbed my phone. I checked Etsy. I messaged my transfer groups and talked about the horrors of cervical clamping that may be in my near future. I waited.  I was bombarded with photos of babies.  I love babies.  I'm still waiting.
I always feel so awkward waiting there. Trying to decide if I should let my feet dangle, or put them in the stirrups. One dow…
